Sideoff to sideshore 6 - 8 beaufort @ Wijk 31-03-2010

The day started with bringing my son to school, and my babydaughter to family. So i had the chance to go surfing for a few moments and drove off towards the beach. Finally arrived, there was a very side offshore wind. Conditions looked great!

See Torben sailing in the morning hours, here below with the Witchcraft 3.0 77L x4.8m2 Hotsails Smack 2010.

And stimi here below going off aswell on his new starboard quad ..

When i got on myself, the wind was very gusty. I rigged up my 4.5m2 sado which was i think the best option for today, and took my SOS rocket 68. Which was NOT the right choice today. I should of listend to my self, offshore winds, gusty, dont take a board 2olitres below my own weight. But the SOS 68 surfs so nice, i just wanted to take it out again after a 3 month winterstay in the barn. I seriously would of been better with the sos 82. Did a lot of swimming today.
I did had a few nice waverides and a few high jumps. But most of the time my board was working like a submarine. Didnt feel like walking back trough the dunes to get my bigger board. The wind wasnt hard and steady enough to keep me above water. Later on in the afternoon the conditions got worse, choppy, more flat, crappy and combined with the wind going on and off the whole time and me not planing anymore, i just had enough. i went off around 4.30pm. A 2 hour drive further because a nice traffic jam was calling my name on the way back home, i could finally high jump straight into the shower. My dad came around to @t Wijk, he made some pictures of me. All the other pictures, where i am not on, i took myself.

Me going over the shorebreak.

Cruising the lake @ Strand Horst -sunday 28-03-2010

For the first time this year, I went to the lakes Strand Horst close at home. The conditions at sea weren't all that. Rigged up my Point-7 AC1 7.2m2/Fanatic Falcon 105 /Tectonics F1 34cm.

No speedsession or whatsoever, just cruising the lake. The total distance i made was 51 kilometers before the wind died... and had a gps speed max about 56kmh. ;o)

Coming wednesday 31-3-2010 should be going off @ sea, a sideshore direction and 6 to 8 beaufort. Probably more action that day... stay tuned!!

First (minimal) session this year @ Wijk aan Zee 20-03-2010

Above one of my fave spots Wijk aan zee!

The forecasts this week were looking good for the weekend, there should of been enough wind to use a 5.4m2, with a sideshore (SSW)winddirection. After an hour drive, a to long walk trough the dunes with my SOS92.

i saw several people coming off the water and going backwards.

Above Jop, just after his minimal session.

Just my luck. The wind died, but not completely yet... After a 4 month winterbreak, i decided to go anyway! My friends Roland and Martijn de Man also just arrived and had the same feeling as me. Going in anyway, it was such a long winterbreak. Rolands biggest sail he brought with him was a 4.7m2, but he could borrow my sado 5.4m2. Roland is a leightweight sailor, it should work out for him. I pulled out my 6.6m2 sado brandnew out of the sack. Before i hit the water i shot some pictures from the mellow conditions, so ya all can see how boring it was :-P.
Martijn used the 6.6m2 sado 2009 on a RRD freestylewave 111L 2010. A big floater for an old Giant, as the italians from p7 call him :P

This time Martijn managed not to break his masts. ;o)

I have been planing a few metres/feets myself on a 1 or 2 ft wave, but my yellow SOS
Rocket 92 didnt had enough volume to stay above with these minimal conditions. The wind completely died, when i got on.. Had a laugh with my buds, forgot to put on my neoprene gloves. Swimming with 4 to5 degrees watertemperature isnt everything i can tell you that.

Next time i go out, it has to be rocking out there!! Orelse i'll stay at home with a hot cup of chocolatemilk in my hands.

Spring is in the air!

Finally this ice period 2009/2010 comes to an end!

I can finally dust of my sails and boards. fine tune em, and hit the dutch coast again. My S.O.S.'s been waiting long enough. At the moment its still freezing out here, but the day temperatures are above zero. Soon it has to happen!

My son talked to me about surfing again and wanted to go out surfing with me. I told him to wait a few more months as the watertemperature is bits above freezingpoint lol that lil bugger will be better then me one day!
Here below a few pictures of last surfseason...
...trying to get into his suit..

My son uses my biggest custom malibu waveboard with a 1.5m2 kidrig. a great combo so far. Gladly he enjoys surfing a lot, what makes me so proud ;o)

My babygirl here january 2010 trying on her new wetsuit. She will hit the lakes coming summer! Better Watch out!
